Should i let my son get a ball python (Father speaking)!?

I am bowlingking92’s father and he is wanting a snake. He is a bright child but also has a very good social life. He is a sophmore in high school, carrying a 4.1 GPA, taking 3 honors classes and AP World History, is in the Latin club and Science club, and is wanting a snake. I am not sure if i should let him. He has the money to pay for the aquarium, accesories, snake, food, and everything but all i have to do is take him to petco. He has two dogs (a pit bull/lab mix and a miniature dachshund [which will not get housetrained, he is almost 5 months though]. (Do dogs get afraid if they smell reptile in the room?) He can pay for everything and is responsible when it comes to his own stuff but sometimes is lazy when it comes to others things. I do not like snakes but he can keep it in his room.

What all does he need?
How much does food cost? What should he feed it and how often should he feed it?
Do colleges allow snakes in dorms because he will be going to college soon?

Ignore the couple of foolish answers. There seem to be too many of them here on Yahoo. Anyway, it sounds like he’s old enough and smart enough to care for a pet which is as easy to care for as a ball python. They are much easier to take care of than a dog. They need a proper temperature and the occasional meal. I’d feed it an appropriately mouse once a week. This will only cost you about a dollar or two a week. I am a breeder with over 120 snakes, and it costs me about $60 a week to feed them. The dorm thing depends on that particular dorm’s rules, but to be safe you should plan on caring for it in the future. The dogs will care less. It’s the snake that might be fearful.

Ball pythons rarely bite, and who knows, even you may grow to like it. They are a very low maintenance animal.
